2008 Willamette Valley Riesling Tasting Notes
The aroma displays a depth of fruit and spice. The fruit is up front and center with ripe citrus tangerine and Meyer lemon, integrated with lovely delicate Christmas spice. The flavor is a concentrated mouthful of tangerine peel, peach, embraced by that spice element. Rich juicy center of palate is equally matched by late season harvested mineral backbone. The finish is fresh with fruit, spice, and nice blossom honey.
Wine Scores and Reviews for 2008 Willamette Valley Riesling
- 2008: Wine Enthusiast 88 "Full-bodied, juicy, off-dry and forward. Immediately approachable and plenty flavorful, with streaks of tea, lemon and tangerine." - Paul Gregutt
- 2008: Wine Advocate 91 "Argyle’s 2008 Riesling has an attractive nose of mineral, spring flowers, and tropical notes. This leads to an intense, concentrated, vibrant Riesling with layers of flavor and a very long, crisp, refreshing finish. It will evolve for several years and drink well for at least a decade." - Jay Miller
- 2007: Wine Enthusiast 91 + Editors Choice "Here is a very nice take on Riesling, gleaned from high-density vines. It captures the density and grip of the bone-dry Australian Rieslings, with the added concentration of Northwest fruit. An extra bonus—it’s just one percent residual sugar and 12.5% alcohol; a beautiful proportion that feels dry, carries some light honeyed sweetness in the finish and does not tire the palate. Editors’ Choice." — Paul Gregutt
- 2007: Wine Spectator 86 "Off-dry, with some pretty pear, floral and loamy-earth flavors that linger on the open-textured finish. Drink now. 975 cases made." - Harvey Steiman
- 2006: Wine Spectator 87 "Pleasantly off-dry, this has enough of a backbone of acidity to lift the floral apple flavors and let them glide through the savory finish. Drink now through 2009. 635 cases made." - Harvey Steiman
- 2005: Wine Spectator 87 "Fresh and zingy, with lime and mineral elements adding interest to the green apple and pear flavors, lingering nicely on the off-dry finish. Drink now. 446 cases made." - Harvey Steiman
- 2004: Wine Spectator 87 "Soft, with peppery melon and pear flavors, finishing lightly sweet and silky. Drink now. 70 cases made." - Harvey Steiman
- 2003: Wine Spectator 88 "Off-dry, with tangy lime against apple and white peach flavors, lingering appealingly. Drink now. 70 cases made." - Harvey Steiman
