Story of Nuthouse Wines

Story of Nuthouse Wines

by Rollin Soles

In homage to our "squirrel friendly" heritage, we designate those wines that branch off into rare and unique styles, "Nuthouse". The term "Nuthouse" originated from our winery's history as a hazelnut processing plant. Oregon is responsible for over 99% of the hazelnuts grown in the U.S. In the Dundee Hills where many of Oregon's best wine grapes are grown, hazelnuts are the only other agricultural crop. So as a tribute to the friendly filbert we have established the "Nuthouse" line of wines. We make "Nuthouse Chardonnay" and "Nuthouse Pinot Noir". Both wines are "single vineyard" bottlings with limited productions.

Did you know that Argyle farms 500 acres of Willamette Valley vineyards, including one of the premier sites for Pinot Noir in the booming Eola Hills region? We're referring, of course, to Lone Star Vineyard - the primary source for Nuthouse Pinot Noir!

Lone Star is our warmest vineyard site, and in Oregon, the warmest sites are the best Pinot Noir sites. What characterizes a Lone Star sourced Pinot Noir? Big, intense black fruit flavors supported by a firm tannic structure, suggesting wines that will age very well.
