Lone Star Vineyard

Lone Star Vineyard

Argyle Winery's Source for Nuthouse Pinot Noir and Nuthouse Chardonnay

Eola-Amity Hills AVA, Yamhill Valley, Oregon

Do great views ensure great wines? At Lone Star Vineyard the vines are treated to a sweeping view of the Cascades, from Mt. Rainier in the north to the Three Sisters to the south. While the view is stunning, this low elevation, warm site is a magnet for the two forces crucial for ripening grapes: light and heat. As the first light of day peaks over the Cascade range, Lone Star Vineyard begins absorbing the full power of the sun. Located 15 miles south of Dundee in the Eola Hills, this 116 acre site is oriented to maximize the sun's light and heat.

Lone Star is the vineyard that produces some of Argyle's most coveted and highly-rated wines - Nuthouse Pinot Noir and Nuthouse Chardonnay.

Location: Eola Hills     Owner: Argyle     Managed by: Argyle     Grapes: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling

About Pinot Noir

Great Pinot Noir creates a lasting impression on the palate and in the memory. Aromas of Argyle Pinot Noir include black fruits like black cherry, blueberry, marionberry, floral aromas of rose petal and violet and spice and earth aromas such as chocolate, nutmeg, forest floor, mushroom and quarried rock. Pinot Noir is full bodied and rich but not heavy, high in alcohol, yet neither acidic or tannic, with substantial flavor despite its delicacy. Pinot Noir's most appealing quality may be its soft, velvety texture. When right, it is like liquid silk, gently caressing the palate.

About Chardonnay

Chardonnay is in some ways a more difficult grape to grow than Pinot Noir. It is critical to farm Chardonnay for maximum flavor development since, unlike Pinot Noir, you cannot rely on grape skins to augment lack of flavor. Argyle farms Chardonnay of such intense fruit character that the use of new French oak barrels will compliment--not dominate--the wine. Argyle Chardonnay typically has citrus, tree fruit and tropical fruit aromas balanced with a mineral backbone structure. From top vintages Argyle Chardonnay ages well for a decade or longer.

About Riesling

Riesling is one of the world's great wine grapes as it makes long-lived dry and sweet wines. Argyle Riesling typically has concentrated fruity and floral aromas reminiscent of honeysuckle, lychee nut and peaches. On the palate the wine exhibits a viscous, sweet, silky-textured sensation with fresh fruit flavors (citrus and tree fruits) and a lingering, palate cleansing finish. It's almost as if the vine takes fruit from the sun and spice from the earth and blends them up into a lyrical elixir of the best from the earth and stars.
